Recap 2023, Welcome 2024 as an Estate Agent

So here we are in January 2024, and I’m finally penning down my recap of 2023! December proved to be a busy month, but when the 22nd arrived, I took a well-deserved rest, spending time unwinding with family, friends, and my dog Cindy.

Looking back, 2023 was an incredibly busy year, filled with amazing opportunities. I had the pleasure of meeting some exceptional individuals and helping many on their buying and selling journeys, which I consider a privilege to be a part of.

A question I constantly ponder each day is: “How can I do things better?” It’s about improving service for clients, advancing the business, enhancing my knowledge, and fostering personal development. I genuinely believe in the value of lifelong learning and approached 2023 with an open mind, embracing this philosophy.

It was a year where our hard work bore fruit. In February 2023, we received the honour of being awarded the Best Use of Creative Marketing at the West Cork Business and Tourism Awards. This recognition was a proud moment for us, acknowledging the innovation and dedication put into marketing property. Beyond the award, the West Cork Business Gala Dinner was an amazing experience, enabling us to connect with numerous West Cork businesses. Additionally, I participated in the IPAV auction at Tattersalls in February, a unique experience conducting an auction from the iconic Tattersalls podium.

Networking played a significant role in 2023, something I genuinely love. Building new connections and forming relationships is the best part. My involvement with the SCSI over the years, serving in roles like Chair of the Southern Region and as a member of various committees, has been instrumental in my professional and personal growth. Likewise, being part of DNG, a premium property network, offered ample opportunities to network with industry colleagues and benefit from a wide pool of resources. The highlight of the year was our annual meeting and awards ceremony at the Curragh Racecourse – an exceptional venue. DNG Galvin’s recognition as a finalist in the National Marketing Awards on that day was incredibly satisfying.

June 2023 brought another challenge – I was elected President of Bandon Toastmasters. Toastmasters is an organisation that I greatly admire for its support in nurturing communication and leadership skills. Through this role, I’ve not only grown professionally but have also made lifelong friends, both locally and globally.

Network Ireland hosted several events in the Cork and West Cork branches in 2023. It’s an enriching group of women, and I’ve cultivated lifelong friendships and expanded my network over the years. I’m delighted to be on the committee for Network Ireland West Cork and am excited to work alongside our newly elected President, Sandra Maybury – a perfect fit for the job!

Of course, amidst these events, there’s my day-to-day job, which I absolutely love – helping people move homes. We sold some fantastic properties in 2023, catering to a diverse range of clients, from families to builders, downsizers, and handling various probate transactions. The variety in this job is what makes being an estate agent so fulfilling – no two days are ever the same.

Do I handle all this work by myself? Absolutely not! I work with a fantastic team. At DNG Galvin, we’re fortunate to have a capable Office Manager, Caroline, who adeptly manages lettings, sales, and the daily operations of the business. With 12 years of experience, there’s nothing that fazes her. I also consistently collaborate with professionals to bolster our marketing, refine our business processes, and enhance client care. The SCSI remains a valuable resource, offering continuous opportunities to upskill and stay abreast of developments in the property industry. And, of course, we have the backing of a national network, DNG – it’s all about teamwork!

At this point, you might be wondering if I do anything other than work. I’ll admit, I work hard – but you know what? I love what I do, and I’m wholly committed to continuous upskilling to ensure my clients receive the best service. However, it’s not all work and no play in my life! A friend once described me as a woman who works hard and parties hard, and I can’t argue with that! I thoroughly enjoy the outdoors, especially spending time walking with my dog, Cindy – it’s my idea of heaven. And in 2023, I picked up a new hobby – golf! I’m grateful to everyone at Bandon Golf Club for their encouragement and the many friendships I’ve made there. Golf is still a work in progress for me, but I absolutely love the challenge. Here’s to more golf in 2024!

So, there’s a semblance of balance in my life – well, I’m getting there, anyway! Before I wrap up 2023, I must share the biggest highlight – winning a national award for excellence in the property industry at the SCSI Surveying Excellence Awards held in Croke Park in December. It was an unexpected and immensely proud moment for me.

As we transitioned into the festive season at DNG Galvin, we organized an Elf Trail for Bandon, supporting local businesses and fostering a fantastic atmosphere in town. It was an incredible experience, and I savoured every moment. The trial saw an incredible number of participants, and the winner walked away with a tablet!

2023 was fantastic, and I’m eagerly looking forward to what 2024 has in store. I have some exciting plans for both the business and personally, and I’m thrilled to see them come to fruition throughout the year.

As we embark on this new year, I remain eternally grateful to all who have supported me – professionally and personally. The connections I’ve forged mean the world to me. I’m genuinely thankful. Here’s wishing you all good health and happiness for 2024.
