Bringing West Corks vacant and derelict buildings into use

Lets make use of existing housing stock in West Corks towns and villages

Bringing Irelands vacant and derelict buildings back into use could transform our towns and cities., as well as aiding the shortage of housing.

I recently let 3 apartments in what was once a derelict building in Kilbrogan Hill Bandon. The property was refurbished and now meets health and safety standards and is home for three families.

The Government needs to provide incentives to bring about 100,000 vacant properties and business premises into the housing stock. This is one of the fastest ways to increase stock to the market. A viable way for the government to do this is to offer tax free rental income for two years to those who refurbished their buildings.

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland published a manual ‘Bringing back homes manual for the reuse of existing buildings. This makes an interesting read.  https://bit.ly/3EyCFgl

The project of the property in Kilbrogan Hill Bandon is a great example of how we can reuse old housing stock and increase the supply of homes.
